America the Beautiful
I'm not so much a 'patriot' as I am a lover of the USA and all of its beauty. Since returning from Korea I've been overwhelmed with pride for my home country, nay, my homeland.
In the almost four months since I returned, I've traveled through no less than 20 states and have seen just how many things we Americans have to be proud of. It's not about frustration with the Bush administration anymore to me; it's about pride in something else.
It's the bluffs along the Buffalo River in Arkansas, Benjamin Franklin, the colonial architecture of Charleston, South Carolina, the way your ears pop the entire time you're traveling through Virginia's Appalachian Valley on I-81.
It's Brooklyn, having stars above your head on Oklahoma's plains while watching a lightning storm 20 miles to the north, seeing New Orleans with a cousin you've missed for years, watching friends achieve their dreams without compromising themselves and realizing that though Germany might be the 'land of opportunity' for me, America will always be my venerated home.
I've neglected this blog for months because I've been too busy staying away from electronics and, getting ticks and blisters as well as supporting the oil industry with Zac's and my road trips. So I'm documenting them here in a succession of posts and proudly adding a new tab to my gutter: America the Beautiful.

WOW! I want to say that I have been following your blog for a very long
time Ash, and I have enjoyed everyone of them. I may have not agreed with
them all but you are one of my favorite cousins and your blogs are
beautiful! Now you have to come visit Tracy and myself! Love you lots!!!
