This victory doesn't mean that everything solves itself overnight. It doesn't mean that division ends, that race, class, sex, religion, sexual orientation or any of the other "boxes" will stop being wedge issues. But -- hopefully -- it does mean that some of what has divided us is starting to become less important, that we've become more open to the reality of what the United States really is, what it really represents.
I kept thinking something would go wrong. I'm still in shock that it actually happened. But somewhere along the way (cheese alert!) the American democratic system started working the way it's supposed to: people registering, getting fired up to vote, having passion for the way the country's run and not letting petty things get in the way of making the best decision.
I really am proud today. Still in shock, but beaming with pride. Yea for us! Yea for Obama!
